Just a slight update - the man held for giving oral sex to the under-aged boy has been charged for not declaring his sero status, not under Section 377A.
If I’m not mistaken, the Police did say that, they will act if any member of the public makes a complaint, but will not follow-up with prosecution under Section 377A.
With regards to human rights, the AG did have a valid point. The Western point of view for human rights is not all uniform.
In Europe, it is seen as a travesty for anyone to question the validity of the Holocausts. But it is permissible to mock Islam with various images & caricatures. The AG took this opportunity to justify why he prefers that Singapore take its own course when dealing with human rights issues.
Of course, where Section 377A is concerned, it is an opinion of the colonial British rulers, antiquated, backdated and not effective in anyway.
best regards,
Hisham
Hi. Glad that you guys are back after a short break. Was Nic D’s return the impetus to the creation of this new episode?
And yes, the all-too-familiar voice IS back! Definitely waaaaaaaay over-drowned Ian’s and Emeric’s voices most of the time! ;)
And it was great to finally meet and be formally introduced to Nic and Ian at Sooma Cafe last Saturday!
Both of you definitely added much life and laughters to the workshop! Too bad Nic had to leave early - Enjoyed the family walk at the Southern Ridges?
Back to the podcast. It is very obvious that Nic feels VERY strongly about the issues that he spoke about.
Hisham has addressed and responded to some of them earlier. I will be responding to the issue of the married man being found in the gay sauna.
I guess he is probably bisexual. I feel that it is definitely not right for him to be cheating on his pregnant wife. However, even those who are straight can and do engage in extra-marital affairs, only with women instead of men.
I think that asking him to divorce his wife seems a bit drastic. There will be social pressures that she will face. What will her family members and friends think of her if she were to return to Indonesia, divorced and with a child? Will they accept her as a single mother (even if the finances are taken care of under the alimony)?
If she were to remain in Singapore, can she survive on her own and raise her child alone? Can she get a job and a means of living?
I can’t stop the guy from wanting to have his fun, nor can I judge him. What I can do is only to remind him to be totally and always safe when “playing” outside. As a husband and father, the least that he can do is to be responsible for not endangering their lives and health with STIs.
Hopefully, he will eventually come to his senses with regards to his wife and child, and do the right thing by being faithful and committed to them….
